BIT – Back In Town

Week 10

4. November – Day 56
The 4th of November was a Monday, and I went back to Szolnok to continue my volunteering with the ESC. I left at 8.30am to get to Cologne Central Station, where my ICE train to Vienna left with a 15–20-minute delay.

I arrived in Vienna 20 minutes later than planned, so I thought I had missed my connecting train to Budapest-Keleti. So, I went to the platform where my alternative train was due to depart. Then, out of nowhere, the train I thought I had missed was announced, as it was also delayed (25-30 minutes).

Because of the delays I missed the connecting train at Budapest-Keleti, but that was no problem as another part of the train I was on was going to Szolnok, so I just had to change carriages. I arrived in Szolnok the next day (5 November) at 00:50.

5. November – Day 57
This is the first day I meet Anna’s boyfriend Robi. Robi is also a volunteer from Georgia. He is staying for as long as Anna is, and they will leave together.

We went to the youth centre for a birthday party, because it was Pistis’ wife’s birthday. We were also invited to stay for the party. The Georgian volunteers left to go to McDonald’s, but I stayed to be polite and to try the food they had prepared for dinner.

6. November – Day 58
Wednesday was nothing special. We met Roli and Richárd at the youth centre. After some time, we went to the shopping district, which I already wrote about in another post. There in the mall Robi went to the hairdresser and then we went to the Burger King nearby. I had a vegetarian Whopper.

After the Burger King we went back to our apartment. There I played Xbox with Eduard. Roli gave us a second controller because we were in the youth centre. Around 9 pm the girls gave Robi a cake because it was his birthday the next day.

7. November – Day 59
At the youth center we all (Roli, István, András, Richárd, Robi, Lana, Anna and me) cooked a typical Hungarian meal. The reason was Robi’s birthday. The dish we cooked is called “Rakott Krumpli” and it was delicious.

8. November – Day 60
Friday was a free day because Lana had an exam for her Bachelor or Master (I always confuse these two things). The only thing I did was go to Rossman’s to buy salt for the dishwasher and I also bought T-shirts, backing paper and ear plugs. And I went to the nearby Spar to buy cleaning vinegar.

9. November – Day 61
November 10th was a free day like Friday. I used this day to visit the Penny in Szolnok. I had never been there before. At the same time, I bought tissues and glasses cleaning cloths.

In the evening the volunteers, Richárd, András, Roli and Zoli went to a pub.

10. November – Day 62
We were invited by Dávid to a kind of weekend house where we could see an old style of living. The Georgian volunteers were picked up first by Dávid and an hour later by András, because there was not enough room in the other car. On the way to this house, we picked up Roli in Szajol. When we arrived at the house we went to another place in the village. There was a kind of block party with toy and food stands and some merry-go-rounds. After that we wanted to go back to the weekend house, but it was closed. So, we were taken back to Szolnok. On the way back, András, Roli and I stopped at István’s apartment to pick up some parcels I had sent, including part of my computer. The last thing that happened was that I unpacked my computer.
