Week 18
6th January – Day 108
Monday marked the first workday of the new year. We cleaned the youth center to prepare it for an upcoming rental. On Sunday, I had also tried a new recipe: vegan red lentil pancakes.
7th January – Day 109
I spent Tuesday at the youth center working on the Information Package for future volunteers, a project I started in Week 16.
8th January – Day 110
Wednesday was an unplanned free day because Roland and Pisti were setting up a new apartment for incoming volunteers. I decided to cook and made a red lentil Bolognese with help from ChatGPT.
9th January – Day 111
On Thursday, I had an early start, waking up at 7:30 AM to travel to Debrecen with Roland, Pisti, and Natia. As Natia is from Georgia, a non-EU country, she needed to visit the Georgian Embassy in Debrecen, which is about two hours from Szolnok.
While Pisti accompanied Natia to the embassy, Roland and I explored the surrounding area, which was primarily industrial. We found a café to have coffee before we went with Pisti and Natia to the city center.
In Debrecen’s car-free center, we were joined by a friend of Pisti, who gave us a short tour. We enjoyed lunch at a small bistro-style pizza restaurant. On the way back, we dropped Natia at the train station, as it was just as convenient for her to travel to Kecskemét by train as it was for us to return to Szolnok.
10th January – Day 112
Friday was a productive day at the youth center. I continued the same tasks as Tuesday and printed some materials for my Hungarian lesson.
11th & 12th January – Days 113 & 114
Both Saturday and Sunday were free days. On Sunday, I cooked Möhren-Kartoffel-Puffer (carrot-potato pancakes) with a yogurt dip and roasted potato skins, inspired by a recipe from ChatGPT.
