Week 27 — A Week of Work, Community & Budapest Adventures

10th March — Day 170

After our big weekend trip to Kraków and Prague, we arrived back in Szolnok around 8 AM on Monday. Even though we were tired, some of us decided to go to the Youth Center instead of resting all day. There wasn’t much on the schedule, so we took it easy and used the time to discuss the upcoming week’s plans and make sure everyone was up to date.

11th March — Day 171

Tuesday was a meaningful day — we visited the facility for people with special needs again, but this time, we weren’t just observers.
We arrived at 9:00 AM and helped by moving people in wheelchairs and joining in on their activities. It was a heartwarming experience to connect and assist in small ways.

Afterwards, we grabbed lunch with Milán at a pizza place, which was a nice, casual way to end the morning.

12th March — Day 172

On Wednesday, since Richi’s car was broken, we walked to his workshop.
There, we started planning a new club for youngsters where they can learn practical skills like:

  • 3D Modeling & Printing
  • Programming and Computer Building
  • Math
  • English Conversation Practice

Meanwhile, the other volunteers worked on a flyer for their Cooking Club, which they planned for 19th March.
Since I’ll be in Budapest next week for my on-arrival training as part of the ESC program, I didn’t join their project, but instead, I worked on creating a first draft of a flyer for our tech workshop.

13th March — Day 173

Thursday was another Youth Center day.
Richi continued refining the flyer draft I made, while the other volunteers finished their Cooking Club flyer.
It was a productive but relaxed day.

14th March — Day 174

Friday was similar — we stayed in the Youth Center and worked on our projects. Not much else to report.

15th March — Day 175

Saturday was special. It was a National Holiday in Hungary, and several places in Budapest opened their doors for free.

We started the day with a ceremony in front of the Parliament.
There were horses involved, though they didn’t seem particularly happy about it.

After the ceremony, we visited the Parliament building itself. A specific area was open to the public for free, and it was impressive to walk through those historic halls.

Next stop was the Museum of Fine Arts, which also had free entry for the day.
After soaking in some culture, we went to a Georgian restaurant where we treated ourselves to traditional dishes like Khinkali and Adjarian Khachapuri — both absolutely delicious.

16th March — Day 176

Sunday was a well-deserved rest day. After a busy week and the trip to Budapest, we stayed home to relax and recharge for the week ahead.

Summary

This week was a nice balance between volunteering, project planning, cultural activities, and a little travel adventure.
It feels good to see our ideas for new clubs taking shape and to have these meaningful moments with both the local community and my fellow volunteers.
