🇭🇺 Week 30: Farewell, First Workshop & a Trip to Western Hungary 🚆

(March 31 – April 6 | Days 191–197)

March 31 – Day 191
Monday was Mariam’s last day in Szolnok—she was returning home the next day.
We all went with her to the youth center where she completed some final paperwork for her volunteering service. It was also a chance for people who knew her to say goodbye.

April 1 – Day 192
We didn’t visit the people with special needs because they had their own event.
Instead, we went to the workshop space to prepare it for our upcoming activity. Since March 26, we’ve been hosting weekly workshop sessions.

April 2 – Day 193
Wednesday was the first full workshop session!
We started with some board games to get to know the participants.

The goal of the workshop is to offer various learning opportunities for young people:

  • 3D Modeling with Blender – taught by me (Julius)
  • Math – by Milán
  • IT topics (like website building or PC assembly) – by Ricsárd
  • Board game design – by Jordan
Participants can also practice their English during the sessions. It felt great to kick this off!

April 3 & 4 – Days 194–195
Nothing particularly notable happened on these days—just the usual daily routine.

April 5 – Day 196
In the morning, we attended a charity race event at the Szolnok sports center.
It was organized by Csenge, who is raising money for medical treatments to one day be able to walk again. Out of respect for privacy, I won’t share more details—but it was a touching event.

Later, Jordan, Nino, and I took a train to Győr, then visited the city center and had some ice cream.
Afterward, we were picked up by a friend of Jordan’s who lives near Pápa. He’s originally from Germany but now lives in Hungary, in a region near Lake Balaton where many Germans seem to live. We had dinner and played card games at his place.

April 6 – Day 197
On Sunday, we visited Lake Balaton with Jordan’s friend and another friend named Renate.
We had Lángos by the lake (a must when visiting Balaton!).
After that, they drove us back to Győr, where we caught the train home to Szolnok.
